The club have several awards and trophy's that they present each year. These recognise competition winners, but also members notable achievements through the year be these intentional or unintentional.....

This page details the 2008 winners and what you need to do to have a shot at winning the awards next year.

Winter Series

The Winter Series ran from October 2007 through to February 2008. The award is based on achieving the highest score across at least 3 events in the series. In order to qualify for the series each driver should officiate at one of the events in a capacity that covers a whole days event. Competitors can marshal or preferably lend their services as Clerk of the Course (CoC). Taking on the CoC role offers other competitors the benefit of their triailing knowledge and spreads the task of setting out across as many people as possible.

Michael Wolfe Memorial Challenge Trophy

The club run an annual event on the increasing popular challenge format. Vehicles have to navigate around a site collecting punches. These punches are in fixed positions so you need to get the vehicle to the punch. Sounds simple? Check out the video on the winch challenge page.

There are 2 classes Non ALRC modified and ALRC standard (RTV type vehicles). The Trophy goes to the highest placed standard ALRC class vehicle. This years event was won by Henry & Alasdair Cox.

Member of the Year

HBLRO like to recognise the achievments of people that have added value to the club and invested their own time to help with the 'behind the scenes' activities needed to run events. This year the award goes to Elton Jonsson. Elton has been a real help on the competition circuit. Not an active participant in RTV events, he travels to assist with setting out trials and then marshaling and helping with event logistics such as trailer delivery and collection. Elton also assists with the many military events.

Boobs Bust

Boobs bust is awarded to the member that inflicts the most damage on their vehicle at one of our events. Usually unintentional, these mishaps create much hilarity and general mickey taking. This year it goes to Hugh Duffett after many events, the wings on his 90 are getting a little tired. It doesn't matter how many times they get mangled, Hugh can always rebuild them. This ususally involves copious amounts gaffer tape, much the same as top rally and F1 Teams.

Wally of the Year

Wally of the Year is the much coveted award for the club member that has had an unfortunate incident in the year. We all try and gloss over any embarrassing moments by keeping them to ourselves. Contrary to this, the club like to celebrate such exploits and therefore award Wally of the Year to the person showing outstanding performance in the gaffs department.

This year this goes to Matthew Brooker. Whilst pottering around his Berkshire estate, Matthew managed to find an old disused gate post hidden in brambles. Making such a find on foot would be no problem, but when the side of a Land Rover Discovery found the immovable object, it re-modelled the wing and passenger door. Look on the bright side, at least the indicator survived intact.

Matthew writes:

Cost of replacing door and wing - £250
Cost of me being reminded (by persons un-named) of it everytime I drive into the field - PRICELESS.
