Like open driving events? Why not volunteer to set out on the Saturday and officiate on the Sunday? Don't worry if you have no experience of setting out events come along and learn the ropes. If you would like further information please contact our Special Events Officer Richard Salter.
HBLRO run a couple of driving days across the year. These events usually run on larger more open military venues in and around the Bordon area in Hampshire. Our driving days are open to all types of 4X4 vehicle, but there are some exceptions. The events are not suitable for car/van based 4 wheel drives and a Max g.v.w of below 3.5 tonnes applies. Vehicles must comply with the Road Traffic Act, and have a current MOT. Sorry no bikes or quads.
Do I need to be a member to take part?
You do not need to be a member of HBLRO to drive at one of our events. If you are already a member of an MSA (Motor Sports Association) Club other than HBLRO you are eligable to take part. If you are not a member of any club don't worry, you can join HBLRO on a driving day membership for only £5.00. This membership will enable the member to enjoy subsiquent driving day events within a 12 month period without having to 'join' again an only pay the entry fee. Further details on the memberships offered by HBLRO can be found Here...
Do I need a specially prepared vehicle to drive?
The only thing you need is a towing/recovery point. Front and rear recovery points are ideal, but don't worry a tow ball would suffice as long as it's correctly secured to the vehicle. As part of the signing on process tow points are checked anything deemed unsatisfactory is taped so marshals know not to use them. Tow points are very important and crucial for safe recovery.
How much is it?
Event entry is £25.00. Site opens at 10:00 and runs until around 15:00 as we need to clear the site before it gets dark. Finishing time may vary so check with event officials.
Can I bring along the whole family?
Our events are family friendly. The land we use is very open and our relaxed view to setting out routes allows you take things at your own pace. In order that everyone can enjoy the day safely we require that:
All vehicle occupants must be seated and wear an approved seat beat at all times.
The passengers sitting in the front seats must be at least 14 years of age.
Passengers who occupy the rear seats of the vehicle must not be less than 2 years of age, and if under 4 years, must be seated in an CE approved "child Seat."
Can my passanger drive?
Passengers intending to drive will also need to take out a driving day membership if not members of HBLRO or an MSA affiliated club. Membership options Here...
