Driving Days

HBLRO run a couple of driving days during the year. These events usually run on larger more open military venues in and around the Bordon (Hampshire) area. Our driving days are open to all types of 4X4 vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes (sorry no bikes or quads). The events are not suitable for car/van based 4 wheel drives.

Driving Days Do I need to be a member of the HBLRO to take part?
To drive at one of our events you will need to be a member of an MSA affiliated club. The HBLRO has the appropriate affiliation along with a number of other clubs. If you would like to come and drive however are not a member of an MSA affiliated club you can join ours 'on the day' as a 'drive around member'. This membership will enable the member to enjoy subsequent driving days within a 12 month period without having to 'join' again. Further details on the memberships offered by HBLRO can be found Here...

Tow Point Do I need a specially prepared vehicle to drive?
One the day we will mark out an 'easy' route that will be suitable for road going 4x4 vehicles. Ideally you should have both front and rear recovery points however a rear recovery point alone is acceptable. This can be in the form of a factory fitted rear tow ball/hitch or any other recovery device as long as it's secured to the chassis. As part of the signing on process tow points are checked and anything deemed unsatisfactory will be marked so that in the event of a recovery being required our marshals will be able to use a suitable recovery method.

So what's the costs?
The entry fee for events in 2020 is under review. More details to follow.

So what are the event timings:
The site opens from around 09.30 for registration. You will be able to start driving from 10.00 The site then closes at around 15.00 (the finishing time may vary so check with event officials on the day)

Can I bring along the whole family?
Our events are family friendly. The land we use is very open and our relaxed view to setting out routes allows you take things at your own pace. In order that everyone can enjoy the day safely we require that:

All vehicle occupants must be seated and wear an approved seat beat at all times.

The passengers sitting in the front seats must be at least 14 years of age.

Passengers who occupy the rear seats of the vehicle must not be less than 2 years of age, and if under 4 years, must be seated in an CE approved "child Seat."

Can any of my passengers also drive?

If they hold a full driving licence then 'yes' - see 'So what's the costs' above for the fees

For your safety...
For your safety and the safety of others we have produced a safety data sheet for these type of events. They give you some advice and a list of activities that are not permitted.
